Before you buy
Buying a truck for a wheel lift? Check these details first.
When you’re shopping for a truck and a wheel lift, review them as one setup. A good price on the pickup won’t tell you whether its configuration, condition and available space suit the installation you have in mind.

Start with the exact truck—not just the badge
An F-350, Ram 3500 or Silverado 3500 name is a starting point, not a compatibility approval. Ask for the model year, cab and bed configuration, wheelbase, drivetrain and clear photos of the manufacturer’s vehicle-rating labels. Two trucks with the same model name can have different configurations and limits.
- Year, make and model
- Cab, bed and wheelbase
- Single or dual rear wheels and drivetrain
- Manufacturer rating labels and any suspension changes
Ask what has changed
Tell us about lift or leveling kits, suspension changes, aftermarket tanks, bed modifications and previous equipment installations. For a used truck, include any known frame repairs, corrosion or collision history. A listing photo and a clean interior can’t establish the condition of the mounting area.
Look at the space your work needs
Lil Hercules is an underbody lift; Baby Gladiator mounts in the pickup bed. The choice affects what needs to fit around it. Think about your spare tire, tanks, hitch, power equipment, toolbox and anything else you plan to carry. Share photos from safe, accessible positions—never get under an unsupported vehicle.
Describe the jobs, not just the lift
What vehicles do you expect to move? What other equipment will ride on the truck? Do you need the bed for tools or parts? Those details help frame the conversation. The lift’s published rating is not an increase to the truck’s vehicle, axle or tire ratings, and a larger lift number alone does not establish a safe completed setup.
Review the plan before you commit
Send the truck details and the lift you’re considering to San Jacinto Wreckers before buying specifically for an installation. If you haven’t picked a truck, choose “Still choosing” in our contact form. We can discuss what needs review; a website estimate or a photo review is not final compatibility approval.
- Confirm the truck and proposed unit together.
- Ask what preparation needs inspection or a separate quote.
- Arrange a condition inspection before purchasing a used truck.
- Confirm availability and installation arrangements before making travel plans.
