Buying a wheel lift

Unit-only or installed: how to compare wheel-lift quotes.

A price for a wheel lift and a price for a completed installation are different starting points. Before choosing between quotes, ask what each total actually includes—and what still depends on your truck.

1. Identify the equipment

Write down the exact model, selected configuration and included components. Don’t assume every photo shows standard equipment. Ask whether the quoted unit includes the controls and power equipment you expect, and list any optional equipment separately. Baby Gladiator and other Gladiator models are not interchangeable descriptions.

2. Separate installation from truck preparation

Ask which mounting, hydraulic, electrical and setup work is included in the installation package. Then ask what work on your truck could be additional. Frame preparation, suspension work, tank or spare-tire relocation and existing modifications need their own review rather than an assumption that every pickup requires the same work.

3. List the add-ons you actually need

Dollies, lights and attachments affect the complete setup. Compare the same list on each quote. Ask whether each accessory is included, optional or not yet confirmed for the selected unit. Avoid treating a photo of a fully equipped truck as a list of included items.

4. Ask about the costs outside the headline

Have freight, tax and any other applicable charges clearly identified before comparing totals. If you are buying a unit only, make sure your plan also covers installation and any truck preparation. If you are traveling for installation, confirm arrival and pickup arrangements before booking travel.

  • Installation labor and included setup work
  • Truck-specific preparation
  • Selected accessories
  • Freight, tax and other applicable charges
  • What is still an estimate or awaiting inspection

5. Know what the quote confirms

An online package estimate is a planning tool. It does not reserve equipment, confirm compatibility or book an installation date. At San Jacinto Wreckers, we review the truck, selected lift and required preparation before confirming the quote. Ask which items are confirmed and which depend on the truck review.
